Samsung Galaxy S10 Face unlock Did an Oopsie

Updated On: October 30, 2024 by Selva Ganesh Leave a Comment

If you don’t know what is an Oopsie. Oopsie is a Mistake, that cannot take back, because it is already on the internet. So, What Samsung Galaxy S10 did is Some next Level. Unfortunately, the trending Samsung Galaxy S10 and its variants failed woefully while techies test the face unlock feature which happens to be one of the security options available for its users. It was quite disappointing that the face unlocks security feature on Galaxy S10 can be fooled by mere footages of the device owner and not even actual human faces.

This is a massive issue for Galaxy S10 users. However, maybe you shouldn’t use the face unlock security feature at all, instead, make use of the in-display fingerprint security. At least, that is still a confident way to secure your device, app, file, or other things saved on your S10 smartphone.baby faking her face

How possible can a video unlock the Samsung Galaxy S10?

Lewis Hilsenteger (Unbox Therapy) shared a video on YouTube showing how he was able to unlock his Samsung Galaxy S10 by playing one of his videos on another phone. It was quite surprising because the device from which the video playback was initiated has its touchscreen already smudged with dust, grimes, and fingerprints. Still, Lewis’s S10 could read his face from a video and unlocked immediately. This isn’t safe if it works in such an easy way.

Well, this is not the first time we see the face unlock feature fail on smartphones; even the Apple’s iPhone devices with this feature could be fooled but not in a cheap way such as this.

The most surprising part of unlocking Lewis’s Galaxy S10 with video playback on another device was the fact that his face wasn’t stable at the video yet it could be read by S10 up to the point of unlocking the device immediately. So, if you’re a media personality who has got lots of your footages online, using the face unlock security on your S10 isn’t secured at all.

Not only videos, your twin or a sibling can also unlock your Samsung Galaxy S10

Face unlock twitter proof

A Twitter user “Jane Manchun Wong” also shared how she was able to unlock her brother’s Samsung Galaxy S10 with her face. She resembles her brother so well, that was how she could trick the Face Unlock security on S10+ smartphone.

What is the alternative?

Ah, God, Why are you using Facing unlock, When it says it is not secure. Samsung includes that because users need it blindly. You have secured ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, use that. There are other ways you can lock your Samsung Galaxy S10 device; the traditional password, pin, and pattern security options are still there; they are even more reliable than the face unlock. However, in-display fingerprint security is the best you could use for now.

Conclusion

The reason why the Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ can be fooled when locked with the face unlock feature is due to the 2D scan, Which is not that much secure. iPhone uses dot recognize and 3D technology; as a result of this, your S10 device tends to scan a face which makes it detect even wrong faces like yours.

For now, all Samsung Galaxy S10 users are advised not to use this unlock pattern. Instead, they should try out the alternatives. It is quite disappointing that after the whole hype and expectations, S10 has a downside which isn’t manageable at all. Instead of this, They ignore this lock.
