How will Motorola Defy Mobile Satellite Connection Work?

Updated On: September 24, 2024 by Selva Ganesh Leave a Comment

CES events never failed to amaze us. The companies participating in CES events are mostly end-user product-level companies. They are the ones who release the products in your hand. Mostly they don’t end up only as prototypes. One of the features the iPhone 14 came with last year is a Satellite connection which is useful when your mobile fails to get mobile and WiFi connections. It will be helpful in emergencies. At the CES 2023 event, Motorola announced that Motorola Defy Mobile would come with Satellite Connection. It makes sense. Because Motorola Defy is designed for rugged environments means, you may not get regular connections. In those situations, Satellite will help you to stay connected.

Motorola is partnering with Bullitt to bring satellite communication functionality to Android smartphones. The connectivity feature will be available on one of the upcoming Defy series phones. It will be enabled through custom hardware developed by Bullitt and a custom app called Bullitt Satellite Messenger. This feature is designed to provide connectivity in areas where cellular networks or WiFi coverage is unavailable. It will be helpful, particularly in emergencies in remote locations. The Bullitt Satellite Messenger app requires a subscription service that costs $5 per year.

The satellite service with the Motorola Defy 5G will first attempt to connect through cellular and WiFi networks. If neither of these options is available, it will connect to the Satellite. It is worth noting that the Bullitt Satellite Messenger app can be used to send and receive texts as simple SMS messages on both iOS and Android devices.

The Bullitt Satellite Connect service is a collaboration between Skylo, MediaTek, and the Bullitt Group. Skylon is responsible for building and operating the satellite network for Bullitt.

You can use Built Satellite connection for iOS messages too

The Bullitt Satellite Messenger app is available for Android and iOS platforms. It allows users to send and receive messages through a satellite relay. Bullitt states that the app can send messages to any smartphone, regardless of the operating system or device used. Motorola and iPhone users can use the app to communicate with each other as long as they have a clear view of the sky.

Moto Defy Satellite connection is not free

Bullitt has revealed that the cost of sending messages through the satellite relay will be deducted from the subscriber’s plan. There will be no fee to the recipient. The subscription plans for the Bullitt Satellite Messenger app will start at $4.99 per month. The SOS Assistance feature will be free for the first year. The pricing for the Motorola Defy 5G rugged phone has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be revealed sometime in the first quarter of 2023. Further details about the subscription plans and phone pricing are not currently available.

Wrap Up

Satellite connection is an excellent function. But Motorola should connect both the Bullitt and Motorola accounts, making the process easier. A yearly $5 plan, people may forget to renew it; Motorola should cost $10-15 for three years and make the whole three years look like free service. The pricing for the Motorola Defy 5G rugged phone is not yet available. But we can expect the launch in the first quarter of 2023. What are your thoughts about Motorola Defy with a Satellite connection?
