  1. Reinstalling the advised older version helped.

    The phone, however, wants to upgrade to the latest version, an idea I reject at the moment since the crashing problem seems to have started after the last upgrade somewhere in May.

    Note: During the crashes, I also discovered a massive loss of battery life, which annoyed me. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the reason.
    Hopefully, this is also solved now.
