Compared with our regular Wallet, Where we always forget to take from Home, We mostly never miss our mobile when we go outside. So, Most companies have begun to put their features and services on our mobile via apps. We can make payments, Orders and can do lots of things. Storing our identity starts in a few states supporting Digital Driver’s Licenses. Since Each person has Lots of Cards, ID Documents, and Coupons, we can’t always carry all of them, and organizing them is an uncomfortable thing. With the help of Digital Wallets, we can store these things and access them easily whenever we need them. After Apple, Now, Google Wallet Beta is getting a Digital Driver’s License Storage.

Digital Driver’s License support in Google Wallet

Google has published a partial changelog to the Google Play System update in December 2022. It includes mentions about digital I.D. and driver’s license support for Google Wallet. These features will be initially made available in beta for the U.S. by Google. It does not support driver’s licenses or digital I.D.s from all states. The changelog does not mention which states will be available in the beta release. In the coming weeks, Google will share more information about digital I.D. and driver’s license support when it becomes available in beta channels.

Google Wallet Digital Driver License

Google suggests that it opens digital I.D.s (driver’s license, state I.D.) to beta features of Google Wallet in an update rolling out with Google Play Services v48.22 December.

The following is the latest changelog, which was posted to the Google System Updates Support page. A bullet point in the Wallet section states the following:

[Phone] Beta feature allows users from select U.S. states to digitize their state I.D./driver’s license into Google Wallet. This will allow for a private, secure, and convenient presentation.

Additional December 2022 Playstore Improvements

The latest Play System update and the Google Wallet beta updates will bring casting and Nearby Share enhancements, including updated Cast settings and reduced delays in discovering contacts via Nearby Share. There will also be a new dialog for accepting an incoming Cast on tablets. The changelog is available in the section below.

Digital Driver License Supporting Countries

The “users of selected U.S. states” section is another important point. The majority of U.S. states do not permit a driver’s license or state I.D. to be digitized. Apple launched digital I.D.s recently, but only three states have been supported. Nine more states have pledged to keep them in the future.

  • Arizona (as of March 2022).
  • Maryland (as of May 2022).
  • Colorado (as of November 20,22)

Plan to Support Countries

The following states are working on Digital Driver’s License support and may get it soon.

  • Connecticut
  • Georgia
  • Hawaii
  • Iowa
  • Kentucky
  • Mississippi
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Utah

Wrap Up

Every Place and Department is moving towards Digital World. So, it will be helpful when they provide and adapt Digital n everything. Even though lots of people follow the Car, Documents should be in the Car; when we change the vehicle or for Emergency usage, They can’t access the documents on the spot. In those situations, Digital documents will be helpful. Apple is already supporting Digital licenses in the wallet in selected countries. Now it is time for Google too.
