Root Lenovo Vibe K5/K5 Plus Lollipop, Marshmallow 6.0 using TWRP and Install Magisk

Lenovo Vibe K5 and K5 plus released in Same Period, Where K5 Plus comes with Snapdragon 616 Processor. K5 plus variant has 3 GB RAM also. 2 GB RAM and 3 GB RAM, Whatever you have you know, how hard to use this mobile Now. In K5 Plus only Brazil variants received Marshmallow update. Lenovo Didn’t roll out Marshmallow to all options. So, in long time usage, RAM management can be a struggle in your mobile. By rooting, we can remove Bloatware apps or flash Custom ROMs. When flashing Unofficial Custom ROMs, you should check everything like what will work and what don’t. Sometimes Bluetooth, Network issues can happen. The process is based on Official TWRP, so,  there should be a 100% success rate. Yes, you can also try without the PC method, But, It may not work better like this TWRP flash method.

Why should you Root Lenovo Vibe K5 and K5 Plus?

We appreciate the hard work of the TWRP team. Without them, this Root method is not possible. Your mobile has only 2 GB of RAM. It is not enough for Normal usage. Also, Lenovo stopped Security patch updates on 60-90 days Interval. Also, It is based on Old OS, So we can’t expect Many optimizations. It has a Qualcomm MSM8929 Snapdragon 415 (K5) and Qualcomm MSM8939v2 Snapdragon 616 (K5 Plus) processor.

Due to Poor RAM Management in Old device, you will feel laggy. If we optimize correctly with correct Custom OS after rooting, we can see some Improvements. How to Root Lenovo Vibe K5 and K5 Plus Lollipop, Marshmallow 6.0 (A6020a40 (S415), A6020a40 (S616 H39), A6020a41, A6020l36, A6020l37, A6020a46 (2GB RAM), A6020a46 (3GB RAM))

Lenovo Vibe K5 International Variants comes with a flexible bootloader other than some locked devices. Example- In Samsung, Verizon mobiles come with locked Bootloader. This means that different smartphone variants can be easily rooted. Also, the device can accept to install TWRP recovery or any other custom recovery file/app alike.

TWRP recovery is a custom recovery file which must be installed on your devices because you can root them successfully. In this article, we explained the easiest method to follow and install TWRP recovery on Lenovo Vibe K5. However, the tool required for rooting this device is the Magisk App.

With the help of TWRP Recovery, you can quickly flash the latest version of Magisk into your Vibe K5 to gain root access. Before sharing the tutorial, you may want to know that, with the TWRP recovery present on your device, you can easily install any custom ROM or firmware. Does it seem complicated? Relax, everything will be explained succinctly in bullets.

  • Make sure your device battery is charged above 50%

  • Backup your current files and data, full data loss process (save them on external storage).

Pre-Requirement StepsOnePlus 6T OEM Unlock and USB Debugging

  • Enable USB Debugging Mode and OEM Unlock on your mobile. To do this; go to settings >>> about >>> Tap on the “Build Number” 7-10 times consistently to enable “Developer Options,” then go to the “Developer Options” and enable USB Debugging Mode, OEM Unlock. There is no complicated process in Lenovo Vibe K5.

  • Also, download the ADB drivers. Install it in your PC.

  • Download Magisk.Zip (Latest Version) and Copy it to Your Phone Memory.
  • Download and save the TWRP Recovery on your PC and rename recovery file to recovery.img.

Unlock Bootloader using ADB and Fastboot

  • It is Old device. So, there is no need for the Bootloader unlock process. Allowing USB debugging in developer options is enough.

Flash TWRP

  • Now, connect the Lenovo Vibe K5 mobile to the computer via USB cable.

  • Launch the fastboot on your computer. Open a Command prompt on your PC and type below command.

  • adb devices
  • The above command will display some code for device detection. If you didn’t receive any response, Check with the USB Cable. If you get a response, move to the below command.
  • adb reboot bootloader
  • Your mobile will boot into Bootloader.

  • Type below command to flash TWRP on your mobile.
  • adb reboot bootloader
  • Your mobile will boot into Bootloader.

ADB Commands Flash TWRP

  • Type below command to check the fastboot status.

  • fastboot devices
  • The above command will display some code for device detection. If you didn’t receive any response, Check with the USB Cable. If you get a response, move to the below command.
  • fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  • After the process complete, Type below command to reboot into TWRP.
  • adb reboot bootloader
  • It will boot into the temporary TWRP. Don’t Boot into standard OS until we flash magisk.

Install Magisk on your Lenovo Vibe K5 using TWRP

  • Select Wipe->Advance Wipe->Select Cache Data.
  • Return to Home of TWRP select Install.
  • Select Magisk.Zip.
  • After the Successful Installation, Reboot your mobile.
  • You can also install Magisk Manager in your Mobile Applications If you can’t find the Magisk app in the App Drawer. Install Root checker to verify your Root Status.

Lenovo Vibe K5 has a minimum of 2 GB RAM, and it is a Mid-Range phone; There are no Major regular updates and monthly updates, from Lenovo for a long time. If you compare it with Old devices, Some models still receiving updates, so, you know what you are doing and the real purpose, you can root your device. By flashing Custom ROM, you can use New Android versions, without any lag issues.
