Free Delivery on Amazon Fresh

Starting Feb. 28, Amazon Fresh customers will have to spend more to qualify for free grocery delivery. The current minimum order amount for free delivery through the Amazon Prime subscriber-only service is $35, but it will increase to $150 as of Feb. 28.

How Amazon Calculates Free Delivery Charges?

Customers who place orders under $150 will be subject to a service fee, which varies depending on their order amount. Orders between $100 and $150 will incur a $3.95 fee, orders between $50 and $100 will have a $6.95 fee, and orders under $50 will have a $9.95 fee.

Previously, Amazon Prime customers had enjoyed free delivery for orders of at least $35, but the new threshold of $150 represents a significant increase.

  • This service fee will help keep prices low in our online and physical grocery stores as we better cover grocery delivery costs and continue to enable offering a consistent, fast, and high-quality delivery experience.
  • We will continue to offer convenient two-hour delivery windows for all orders, and customers in some areas will be able to select a longer, six-hour delivery window for a reduced fee.
  • As a Prime member, you enjoy a wide range of shopping, savings, and entertainment benefits.

Who Will Be Affected by the new Free Delivery Charge Change?

The change in delivery fee threshold is likely to affect customers who only place small and infrequent orders. The difference may not significantly impact customers who frequently order groceries online and have larger order sizes. Also, Amazon Prime members will still have access to other benefits, such as Prime Pantry and Prime Now, which offer free delivery on select items with a minimum purchase.

Amazon’s move to increase the minimum order amount for free delivery is not uncommon in the industry. Other grocery delivery services, such as Instacart and Walmart, have minimum order amounts for free delivery. Amazon’s move is also in line with its recent focus on profitability and cost-cutting measures.

Despite the change, customers can still take advantage of Amazon Fresh’s convenience and selection of products. The service offers a wide variety of items, including fresh produce, meat, dairy, pantry staples, household essentials, and more. Customers can also save money by using Amazon Fresh’s subscribe and save feature, which allows them to schedule regular deliveries of their favorite products at a discounted price.
