Root Sony Xperia XZ1 Pie 9.0 using TWRP and Magisk

Sony Xperia devices are always unique in some way. Their dedication towards both Hardware and Software are still high. They provide regular patch updates and Major upgrades to all their device. Sony Xperia XZ1 got Pie 9.0 update. When coming to developing techniques like rooting, Sony devices need some additional steps. Fortunately, they support the official bootloader unlock process, that makes the process quite comfortable if you are a regular user. In my opinion, you don’t need to root your mobile until you have a strong reason. Rooted mobiles need proper optimizations. You will lose Official updates from Sony. You have to update your OS If there is a critical update manually. Compare with other Manufacturers; Sony always provides Software support. 1. I don’t want to delete DRM keys as well as I need xreality engine for video optimization, how can I backup DRM keys and restore it later?

    • We already attached Pie Kernel; It will do that work. You can also use other kernels. There are plenty of available options. All you have to do is flash the Kernel during the Magisk installation and backup the DRM files either by separate backup or full backup.

  2. I can’t get the device into fastboot. I’ve followed every step, multiple times, I’ve factory reset the phone, tried a different cable, worked on a different computer, but it gives me nothing after I attempt to put into fastboot and I write “fastboot devices.”
Before attempting the fastboot, it is detected in adb when I type “adb devices,” I’ve got the oem unlock enabled, USB debugging allowed, I’ve confirmed it is “bootloader enabled” with the *#*#7378423#*#*.
I’ve tried both the mechanical way (volume button and plugging in) and the command line “adb reboot bootloader”; both bring up the blue light and… nothing.
Of note, Xperia companion says it’s locked every time I “try” to put it into fastboot… don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

    • So I made it into getting fastboot, had to press volume up and not down.
But now it won’t boot into recovery. The command you write “fastboot reboot” doesn’t boot it up into recovery; “fastboot reboot recovery” would, if my phone could successfully boot into recovery.

      • So I’ve gotten it into TWRP recovery. Finally, you need to unplug the phone and hold the volume – and power until the screen turns on, then you wait, and it should open. Using the command line doesn’t work for me.

FYI, I’m using a Sony Xperia ZX1 G8343 that was bought in Canada.

  3. Hi, I know this comment may be a little late, but I need help.
After launching the fastboot reboot command, my phone just rebooted, not even entering TWRP, and giving me the message “your device software can’t be checked for corruption, please lock the bootloader.” After that, he rebooted himself and returned to the practically formatted operating system. What do I do? Please help me !!

  4. When I want to write a fastboot device in command prompt
it just says: “‘fastboot’ is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.”

    • You can back up your app data using Google Account. Save other media files in external storage. You can also take backup in the first boot of TWRP.

  5. Hello, I have the Xperia xz1 compact 9.0 Android G8441, number build 47.2.a.11.128. I have to root it to recover some deleted files. Does this tutorial work for my model phone? I also would like to keep the DRM keys, but I don’t know-how. Can you help me please? Thank you
